Mae A. Welker 73, of Saco, Towanda RR1, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, Pa. following a motorcycle accident.

Mae was born in Elmira, N.Y. on Oct. 16, 1935, the only child of the late Leland Edwin Ellis and Katherine Morton Ellis.

In earlier years, Mae was employed by Macke Vending in Harrisburg, Pa., and by Dick Morse in the delivery of dairy products for the Crowley Milk Company. She was later employed by Serve Rite at GTE Sylvania in Towanda for a number of years until her retirement. Mae was a member of the Luthers Mills United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping with the dinners provided by the church. She was a member and Pennsylvania District Safety Educator of the Gold Wing Riders Association, member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 76 Towanda and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2191, Towanda. Mae served as a Democratic Committee Woman for North Towanda Township for many years and was a member of the North Towanda Township Election Board.

Surviving are: her sons, Edwin Russell and his wife Lori of LeRaysville, Pa., Randy Russell of Luthers Mills, Pa., William J. Welker of Reading, Pa.; grandchildren, Tracie Marcy, Brandy Lamphere, Kayla Mae Russell, Randi Rae Russell, Danielle Wheeler and Dylan Russell; great-grandchildren: Zoie J. Lamphere, Jadia Mae Lamphere and Hunter Wheeler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary "Betty" and David Snyder of Ulster RR2, Pa.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William John Welker, on Aug. 25, 2000.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave. ,Towanda, Pa.

Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

The Towanda Chapter No. 76 Order of Eastern Star will hold a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
